Ben’s Match Report Amersham

Molesey FC 1 v 4 Amersham

The Final Home League game of the season could not have been a tougher task than playing the League Champion elect and having played 5 games already in April.

It was therefore no wonder that Molesey looked a little lethargic and where a little off the pace at the start and after 9 minutes found them selves a goal down Clifford popped off near the far post to open the scoring for Amersham.
If was soon 2-0 to Amersham, as they looked as though they were going to run through the Molesey side, as in the 24th minute the ball was played across the Molesey penalty area by Tabor for Birchman to head the ball home unchallenged at the far post.
To their credit the Molesey players dug in and started to fight there way back into the game and in the 35th minute almost pulled one back when a long-range effort saw Haravi slide in and deflect the shot, which wrong footed the keeper, and saw the ball go narrowly past the opposite post.
Three minutes later and Molesey got the goal that they deserved when the ball wasn’t cleared by the Amersham defence and Moriarty was on hand to slot the ball into the left corner of the goal.
Molesey were looking to go into half time just the one goal down so they could re-group, re-energise and re-focus but Amersham had different ideas. On the stroke of half=time Amersham won a corner and as it was swung in Henegan ran onto the ball and headed the ball onto the post and the call re=bounded ot his thigh and into the back of the net, to make the half-time score 3-1 in Amersham’s favour.

The second half saw Molesey battling hard and indeed had had one or two chances that on other days could have resulted in goals fot this hard working Molesey team. In the 65th minute Amersham put the game to bed when Gokman received the ball with his back to goal, he looked to turn one way but went the other and then left the defender and shot past Wheeler to make it an unassailable 1-4 score.
This result still leaves Molesey in the play off places so please keep an eye out on the media for any announcement on future Play-off games, your support will be much appreciated.
On behalf of all the supporters ay Molesey can I wish all the Players and Peter and his Management team the best of luck when the Play-offs arrive and thank them for all pleasure that all there efforts have given us over this long and hard season!
Well done Molesey, Players, Supporters and Management alike. True testament to a great Community Club!
